Member Updates

Seasons Greetings NHSA Members!

As you may have read, NHSA is in a period of leadership transition. What is gratifying is that the board and staff have stepped up, demonstrating how the Assembly is a genuinely member-driven organization. And it remains steadfast and focused on bringing value to members and being at the forefront of the issues that are important to our sector.

As the end of the year approaches, we find ourselves reflecting on all the great highlights from 2015 and very much looking forward to all of the wonderful things to come in 2016.

Reframing Human Services

We couldn’t be more excited to continue mobilizing around “Building Well Being” the new frame for human services. We recently trained a group of “champions,” including leaders from many of your organizations and other major players in the sector, on the new frame and have three additional in-person trainings scheduled for early 2016. Our hope is to provide you and your members with the tools you need to integrate a new narrative about the contributions human services make to a thriving society.

In early November, we released the reframing toolkit and additional resources, produced in partnership with the FrameWorks Institute. This was soon followed by a webinar, which you can watch on-demand, that was attended by hundreds of human services leaders from our member organizations and across the sector. We are thrilled with the turnout and the attention that the National Reframing Human Services Initiative is receiving in the nonprofit community.

Additionally, you may have also started to see our presence at your annual conferences, and we will continue to be strong in this area in 2016. Please contact us if you’d like a reframing workshop or presentation at your conference. If you want to get involved with reframing or are interested in the latest updates and opportunities to participate, e-mail your requests or questions to the team at

Peer Learning & Networking

Our 11 peer learning councils hosted over 20 meetings this calendar year with over 400 participants! Topics included Translating Cultural Competence to Business Outcomes, Talent Pipeline for the Nonprofit Sector with Active Duty Military Personnel and Veterans, and many more. Next year we hope to expand our offerings, encompassing additional topic-based forums that highlight key areas where we can collaborate to address issues in the sector.

Learn more about our peer learning councils on the NHSA website or e-mail We hope to get even more staff at your organizations involved in 2016. Stay tuned for a calendar of events!

Group Purchasing

Member participation in PurchasingPoint has continued to grow over the past year with the network expanding to over 6,500 facilities with over 7,000 users. Our members saved an estimated $20 million through the program in 2015! Our group purchasing volume is projected to hit $73 million by year’s end, and the total group volume through our partnership with HealthTrust Purchasing Group is approaching $30 billion. That’s tremendous purchasing power, and it’s only possible through your continued dedication to the program! Want to know how much your organization is saving through the program? In closing, I don’t want to forget to say how thankful we are for our many wonderful members and the work that your organizations do. Our little world here at the National Assembly continues to spin because we have such wonderful and engaged members! The work that we have done together has been great, but there’s still more to be done.  Folks, let me say that much has been accomplished in 2015, and we are on the right track to do even more in 2016!

Wishing you and those around you a wonderful holiday season!

Best wishes,

Irv Katz
