Lifting As We Climb

by Victor S. Valentine, CEO of NHSA

“The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people.” — Martin Luther King, Jr.

Among the worst-kept secrets in the health and human services sector are the significant policy challenges our providers face. While the National Human Services Assembly (NHSA) remains steadfast in its nonpartisan commitment to supporting leaders across the sector, there are moments that call for elevating the need to secure and sustain the resources required to build communities that thrive. Though perspectives may differ on the best courses of action, what must remain constant is a shared commitment to ensuring our neighbors have their basic human needs met.

As a backbone organization for the sector, NHSA convenes its members and curates information on emerging issues to enable broad knowledge sharing and engagement. Recent areas of focus include the upcoming Seven Days in June: HEALTH IS PRIMARY national campaign, the launch of NHSA’s new Policy Professionals’ Council (PPC), and efforts to inform social work professionals aboutchanges to academic credentialing and related financial supports stemming from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025.

Our role is to encourage members, partners, and supporters to stay informed and actively engage with decision-makers on these and many other issues. We invite you to familiarize yourselves with these issues, join our growing community of organizational leaders, and collaborate with us on the best strategies to enhance our systems. To start, please take time to review our updates and coming events below. You may also feel free to reach out to us directly to learn how NHSA can help connect your organization with additional resources and valuable partnerships.
